For two weeks in early July judges visit entries across the South & South East to cast their professional eye over the efforts of the communities to decide who will be the winners in each category. The judge’s decisions are revealed at the annual awards ceremony in early September.
South & South East in Bloom boasts an outstanding team amongst whom are Britain in Bloom, RHS, Green Flag, Green Pennant and Green Heritage judges and eminent professionals from across the horticultural industry. We also have a number of community judges who look at community involvement and social inclusion. Judges use the Britain in Bloom judging criteria and marking sheet so if you want to know just what they will be looking for download a copy from below.
If you would like to become a judge, please send details of your experience and horticultural/community background (CV) including how many days you could give in 2010, and in which area of the campaign your interests lie. New judges must have previous horticultural or community experience and be contactable via email and mobile phone. Judging can be an demanding activity with a great deal of walking and travelling so new judges should be physically able to do so.
We operate a squad system for judges so we cannot guarantee that you will be accepted or that you will judge in the first year of joining but you will usually be invited to attend a judge’s seminar and a judging session or two with a senior judge in the first year.
