Celebration Stations is an exciting new initiative launched in the South and South East region to celebrate the work of local volunteers, supported and sponsored by South West Rail in enhancing the appearance of train stations and their immediate surrounding areas.

The initiative focuses primarily on the areas within the station, including station buildings, platforms, nearby car parks, and approaches to the station. Participants are encouraged to create an inviting atmosphere that reflects community pride and environmental stewardship.

Assessors will evaluate the entries based on three key elements: the extent of community involvement, a commitment to environmental care, and gardening activities that enhance the overall appearance of the station. It’s important to note that while vibrant, short-term floral displays play a role in the evaluation, and we understand that entries may have different approaches to the various plantings, assessors would also like to see a range of plants and efforts to reduce the use of natural resources and the effects of climate change.

Assessment visits will occur from mid-June to early August, with each assessment involving a single evaluator spending up to one hour at the site. During this time, the assessor will seek to engage with community representatives to gain insight into the achievements and any challenges or limitations faced during the project. This collaborative approach highlights the community’s dedication to transforming their station into a welcoming and aesthetically pleasing space.

There is a small fee to cover the costs of administration and assessor visits.

Should entries also wish to enter the Its Your Neighbourhood scheme and Britain in Bloom initiatives managed and organised in the South & South East in Bloom regions? Both entries will need to be assessed at the same time.

The closing date for entries is the 31st March 2025, and a £25.oo entry fee payable to South & South East in Bloom is payable. If in the SWR region, the fee is refundable. A refund form is available
